Dr. J Lane Easter is a board certified surgeon (Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons) and co-owner of Performance Equine Associates. He specializes in lameness and orthopedic surgery of the western performance horse.
Dr. Easter was raised in a cattle ranching and agriculturally based family. He grew up both in the panhandle of Texas and in Jack County near Jacksboro, Texas. Dr. Easter graduated from high school in Jacksboro, Texas and entered college at Tarleton State University. He graduated from college at Texas A&M University where he then entered Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. He earned the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1993. Upon graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Easter went to work for Katy Equine Clinic in Katy, Texas under the guidance of Dr. Mike Heitmann. After 2 years in general equine practice, he entered a surgical residency at Texas A&M with Dr. Jeff Watkins as his mentor. Dr. Easter finished his residency in 1998 and became a faculty surgeon at Texas A&M for one year. He became board certified in veterinary surgery in 1999. Dr. Easter left Texas A&M for private practice in 1999 and currently owns Performance Equine Associates.
Dr. Easter is married to Kristie Easter (practice manager). Dr. Easter's interests outside of veterinary medicine include packing mules, hunting elk and deer, fly fishing, hunting quail behind good bird dogs, and roping. He has a son, Martin Easter, and a daughter, Jessica Sinclair.
